Deshaun Watson impressed in the Texans 33-36 loss against the Patriots. Watson managed to throw for 301 Yards, 2TD’s and 2 INT’s in the game. The offense actually looked great throughout most of the game, especially the receiving core. The offensive lineman stepped up today as well, by letting Watson have plenty of time to throw the ball and make plays. Watson had a few scrambles which resulted in big plays today, while also having 41 yards rushing on the ground. Watson is something special, and proved it today with the throws and reads he made today. While one interception was just a bad throw, the other was on the end zone hail-mary to try to win the game, so I won’t knock him for that one. The offense was the best I have ever seen in years. The Texans just need a 2nd reliable WR and Fuller should be back this week. The defense on the other hand? I’ll get to that…
The Texans defense was HORRENDOUS. They absolutely blew it on the last drive of the game, no matter the QB (I’m on the Brady is the GOAT campaign as well), but the way they let them win was inexcusable. Brady didn’t beat them by forcing amazing throws, Brady just had to look for the WIDE-OPEN receiver the whole drive. Brady’s game winning touchdown was money, and that was the only play I could truly respect. Everything else was too easy for a great QB like him, with the Texans defense not even trying to cover a wide-open guy. The defense did decent in the first half but essentially lost it when it mattered most. The secondary needs to be improved badly. This better be something they address soon, and hopefully Kevin Johnson isn’t gone for as long as we think he will be.
As far as special teams? Ka’imi Fairbairn has surprised me so far. The dude has a leg, and can actually kick touchbacks. With his leg, the Texans don’t have to worry about getting embarrassed on kick return with their “special” teams. Kick and punt return coverage has always been bad, and showcased in the beginning of the game, but ended up getting better towards the end. Hopefully the special teams can start fielding like they did in the second half.
Hopefully Fuller comes back this week as it will help the Texans with spacing and having a true deep threat. Fuller has the speed to outrun other receivers, and can let Hopkins breathe a little with the protection. Hopefully the Texans also spend some time filling out that secondary too. It is BAD.
