The Houston Texans have claimed former Arizona Cardinals running back Andre Ellington off of Waivers today. Andre was released by the Arizona Cardinals this week, and the Texans were awarded Ellington as they were higher in the waiver priority.
The Texans adding Ellington means two things. 1. They have some depth again after losing rookie running back D’Onta Foreman for the year due to an Achilles tendon on Sundays win over the Cardinals, and 2. The Texans now have every Ellington in the league (not as important but it is interesting). Ellington has shown flashes of potential this year and years before, but injuries have kept him off of the field to show what he is made of. Ellington could be the second-string RB for the matchup against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, due to Alfred Blue still being questionable with an injury.
Looking at this deal, I believe it is a good one. There is no risk, and no commitment. The Texans just needed a body to go with the rest of the season, and if he can thrive, he can even be signed to a little longer of a deal. Ellington lost his role the second the team traded for Adrian Peterson, which is why he was cut due to his role being taken away. I think this is a good move which will allow the Texans to have more bodies to run with.
