The Houston Texans are reportedly nearing a new extension with current head coach Bill O’Brien. According to numerous sources, the deal has been completed and they are simply waiting because they would like to introduce the General Manager and Bill O’Brien on the same day. According to Houston’s very own John McClain, the Texans want to "have O'Brien's extension wrapped up” when they finalize the deal with Brian Gaine. Gaine has almost completed the process to be hired as the new General Manager, which makes it the perfect time for both announcements to take place at the same press conference.
O’Brien has repeatedly said that he would never quit on the Texans. He has reassured Texans fans that he wants to be the longterm Head Coach going forward and no evidence has shown that he's lying or wants to leave. According to McClain, it goes both ways as the Texans want to lock up O’Brien long term as well- the team currently has 6 assistant coaching vacancies. It would be pointless to fill those vacancies and sign 6 assistant coaches to one-year deals if they wanted O’Brien to leave.
O’Brien is expected to be introduced with his extension when Brian Gaine is introduced to the media. They are still finalizing the contract with Gaine, so it may be sometimes before they are introduced. With the reports all here, it may seem as if the Texans already have both locked up.
