According to sources around the league, the Rockets are eying a CP3 return as soon as Thursday. Mike D’Antoni was asked about a possible CP3 return this week and gave the same answer he has always given on the timetable of his return, which they do not want to rush things with CP3. This is totally understandable as the Rockets are currently the best team in the West and also have one of the top-ranked offenses, without CP3. They are doing just fine without him, but with him, they could be a whole other monster waiting to be unleashed.
CP3 had his injury on opening night, which got worse as he played through most of the game. Most people thought CP3 was benched, but in reality, his knee soreness continued to get worse from when he bumped knees in a pre-season game. The Rockets and CP3 didn’t make it a huge deal and allowed him to rest, until the season opener. This sounded like a good idea, and CP3 felt ready to head out with the Rockets on opening night at Oracle Arena. This is where the injury got worse and made CP3 stay out even longer. The Rockets cautious approach is a smart one. I know all the fans want to see CP3 already and watch him and Harden at home, but that will have to wait.
The Rockets could be eyeing a return sometime next week, or even as soon as their opponent on Thursday, the Cavs. Having Chris Paul would be a huge boost for this team as minutes are getting pretty heavy, while D’Antoni is still against throwing in bench players for the team. This has worn down some of the seasoned veterans but also worries me about Harden and the minutes he may log down the line. The number one priority is playoffs and the Rockets know that. That is why the road may look so long for CP3’s return. Hopefully, this will help him from getting any future injuries this year.
