DeAndre Hopkins Agrees To Mega Contract Extension For 5 Years $81 Million

Posted by Devon Bennett on

Deandre Hopkins is going to be a very rich man compared to other Texans AND any other WR. Hopkins has recently agreed to a 5-year extension for $81 million!

Hopkins has been frustrated with his contract since last year as he had a holdout for camp due to him wanting an extension. The Texans don’t usually grant extensions so early, and they had a right to not extend him then due to his contract. Rick Smith did make an interesting comment about him “being under contract” so they don’t have to extend him then, and “we take care of our players”. This was an odd quote throughout the whole process last year as many fans believed Hopkins was getting treated poorly. Man, were we wrong. The Texans didn’t have much money to extend Hopkins last year due to the Brock signing. The Texans cleared Brock off the salary books when they traded him to the Browns. This allowed Hopkins to receive a mega extension with the most guaranteed money in the NFL for a WR ($49 million!). Hopkins is only 25 and has been great with every QB who has ever stepped up besides Brock. Hopkins deserves every single penny of that contract, and is the WR Houston needs to be successful in the next few years. Rick Smith stayed true to his world when he said they take care of his players. I’m sure Hopkins is a very happy man right now.

This is a great signing for the Texans due to us securing a top 5 WR for the next few years. He has always been through the bad QB pay and has still stepped up. Expect Hopkins to have another great year with stable QB play from Savage and Watson.
