The Tennessee Titans have announced that Texans Defensive Coordinator Mike Vrabel has been hired as their new head coach. The Titans have stated they will introduce Vrabel Monday during a news conference. The Texans lost their defensive coordinator, but this may open up the spot for Romeo Crennel to become the new defensive coordinator for the team. Many inside sources believe Crennel will take the position, leaving the Texans no extra vacancies on the defensive coaching side.

The Texans had Vrabel throughout O’Brien’s tenure, but Vrabel has been a head coach candidate in the past 3 years for others. He has interviewed with the Lions and the Colts before the Titans job this year and has interviewed even more the past few years. Mike Vrabel has shown some promise as a defensive coordinator after being promoted from Linebacker coach this past season, but the defense did take a noticeable hit as far as being “disciplined” like years past. Crennell is a seasoned veteran and will restore the defense to its original status again no doubt. Texans may be looking into another assistant to help Crennel, but all vacancies have been filled as far as main coordinators.

The Texans and Titans will play twice next year as they are AFC South enemies. It will for sure be a good matchup with the Titans as the Texans and Titans are both young, and have a quarterback for the future in Watson and Mariota.
